The Founder

He began his career with Punongbayan & Araullo in the Audit & Assurance Division in 1991, where he worked with local and foreign companies from a wide range of industries.  He then moved to the Tax Advisory & Compliance Division, where he handled business registrations and applications for tax refunds.

In 1993, He moved to the private sector, working for an airline and shipping company as an internal auditor and then for a bank as an audit supervisor.  He also worked as a professor at Lyceum College of the Philippines and the University of the East, where he handled accounting and taxation subjects.

From 1996 to 2011, FOR NEARLY 15 YEARS, he held the position of Revenue Examiner at the BIR, where he conducted field audit investigations of tax cases; processed dockets for the payment of transfer taxes; lectures on the BIR’s new issuances, and other similar responsibilities.  He was awarded a certificate of recognition for garnering the highest score (1^st Place) in the 2004 Makati Regional Search for the BIR Centennial Tax Wizard.

In 2011, Atty. Gargoles rejoined Punongbayan and Araullo, and as a Tax Senior Manager, he had an extensive experience in a broad range of tax works such as contesting tax assessments, preparing tax opinion and advice, and other tax corporate works.

In 2013, he established Gargoles Law Office, specializing in BIR tax assessments and other BIR-related tax works.  After a few years, he founded Gargoles Training and Consultancy Services, OPC, which offers in-house and public lectures and seminars on various tax and legal matters and publishing and selling his publications.  He is a regular speaker and lecturer on numerous taxation topics for various firms, organizations, seminar providers, and MCLE accredited programs.  He also serves as a tax and legal consultant on retainer for the governments of Quezon City and Paranaque City, as well as several private enterprises.

He is the author of 2 taxation books entitled “Decoding Tax Enforcement. Assessment and Collection” and “Decoding Property Transfers and Taxes.”

Atty. Gargoles is also a regular guest in DWIZ, discussing different aspects of Taxation for the program “In the Heart of Business” hosted by Ms. Marou Pahati-Sarne and Lito Gagni.
